Ultrasonic Cutting of Nomex Honeycomb

Nomex honeycomb, while relatively strong for its weight, is brittle and prone to cracking, delamination (separation of layers), and fiber pullout during cutting. This is exacerbated by the thin walls of the honeycomb structure. Traditional machining methods often cause more damage than they resolve. Nomex is composed of aramid fibers, which are strong but can fray and create a fuzzy edge on the cut surface if not handled carefully. This requires specialized tools and cutting techniques.
